My 1989 40HP Tohatsu idles great but when under a load it misses.and lacks power. Rebuilt carb and installed new plugs L87YC. Napas book said this was the plug to use. What do you reccomend? Also swapped the cdi unit off a running motor. Same thing. Please Help!!!!

Wrong plug(use the NGK plug that the engine calls for) and random replacement of parts is a very expensive way to fix an outboard. Pick up a service manual and start testing the engine's systems to determine where the problem(s) might be.
