Tohatsu 90 clutch

The clutch on my 90hp lower unit is bad. Naturely, it's a three dog clutch. Now I have to change the forward and reverse gears because they do not make or can't get a three dog clutch. I am interested to know if I can do this without taking it to a Tohatsu dealer. There's not a reputable Tohatsu guy near my hometown. Just trying to save a buck. My buddy is a boat motor mechanic, but only has the tools for Mercury, Yamaha, and OMC. Is this possible?

It goes together like the Yamaha...However, like with any lower unit rebuild for any brand, he will need to use a dial indicator to check the shims.

Thanks. It took me a bit to convince my mechanic about the Yamaha tools, but it worked. He finished with it yesterday, and I tried it out today. Thanks again for the advise!
