Hey folks. Here's my dilemma: I would like to install a stereo system on my boat. I have a 1998 Tohatsu M90A. Do I have enough power/amperage to do this. I understand that this will drain my battery when the boat is not running. In my owner's manual and the SELOC repair manual it states the moter as having 12v/130w, but not actual amperage or mention of adding a stereo. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

Ohm's law reveals: 130w/12v=10.833 amps.

You need a dual battery system if you are going to run an accessory when an outboard is not running.

Its more a problem of the battery than the engine charging system somewhat.

The radio will always be running off the battery so you have more than enough power to run it.

Question is how long and will you kill the battery before you restart the engine to charge it back up. Another question is will you run the engine long enough to put the full charge into the battery back once it is running.

I would replace the current battery and get a big deep cycle battery and go from there if the boat is small and you do not or want a second battery. If the boat is big and the weight of second battery does not matter the n you could do like the above poster said and run your stereo off the second battery. You will still need to put the charge back into the second battery..

Thanks folks.
I think it's time for a big Deep cycle battery, and possibly a second battery with a switch..
