Just got my new engine on the boat today, the dealer said the oil on the outboard (90% full)should last about 150 litres of petrol, does it sound about right?

Altho they are different outboards, I own a Nissan 50 TLDI. It does make a huge difference on RPM. If I am running it hard (regularly wide open at its peak RPM of 5800), I can add a pint every couple of days. If I am running the RPM's lower...say 4500 then if goes several days. It does use oil but not nearly as much as a carbed unit. I only run Klotz Synthetic in it. It does not smoke at all.

So lower the rpm, lower the consumption? I'm using Tohatsu semi synth. Will the Tohatsu full synth have any noticable advantage over the semi, bearing in mind they cost twice as much.

Yes and the Tohatsu oil available in the US is a Dino/Synth blend. Are you sure that the U.K. has a Tohatsu full synth? It's possible....but I wouldn't think the market is large enough to support the expense of labeling one Tohatsu.

The Tohatsu full synth is only available thru dealer. He say he can order it for me, but it's expensive and he can't see the cost advantage.

But is it actually labeled as a Tohatsu product? Here in the U.S., Tohatsu labeled oil is actually manufactured by a U.S. manufactuer for Tohatsu USA. The next time you talk to that dealer would you mind pumping him for a little more information on it? If the U.K. Tohatsu distributor thinks it is worthwhile to have a full synth available, maybe they know something we don't know.
