Trying to figure out why my head won't pump out.

It had a manual pump that appears to look like it brought the waste up to the pump out port on the side of the boat where you would hook the suction pump up to. It was dry rotted so I bypassed it and hooked the waste pipe directly up to the port on the side of the boat. I still can't get suction to pull the waste out of the tank.

What am I missing here? I believe the pipe should just suck the s**t right out (literally) seeing it's directly connected to the waste tank itself.

Anyone have trouble like this?

You're going to have to retrace those hoses, because what you're describing doesn't make sense.

1. You have a means to pull flush water into the toilet, and pump waste from the toilet (head) to the holding tank. That can be either a hand pump or electric pump. It'd be part of the toilet. The flush water for the toilet is drawn through a hose that runs from a seacock mounted below the waterline, to the toilet.

Seacock ===> Hose 1 ===> Toilet ===> Hose 2 ===> Waste Holding Tank

2. You have 2 conceivable methods of emptying the waste tank.

A. Waste Holding Tank ===> Hose ===> Macerator ===> Pump ===> Seacock (out into the water you're floating in) Depending on where you live, this method is probably now illegal

B. Waste Holding Tank ===> Hose ===> Deck Pumpout Fitting.

You MIGHT have a Y-Valve in the hoses coming out of the holding tank. That would be there to allow you to switch between discharging into the water, or letting the pumpout suck the waste from the tank.

Hope this helps.

Your "B" option is what I have.

There is no macerateor or holding tank or hull discharge. The holding tank is directly under the head itself. with one hose to remove the waste water.

The "Y" fitting is capped with a plumbing drain cap (rubber) held on with a hose clamp. Basically the type you would use capping off a drain pipe in your home. It's not leaking...

What the problem is,it does not seem to suck the wast out of the tank.

I'm thinking either there's a vacuum leak when I try to draw it out somewhere in the line OR.. it's just not sucking the waste out of the tank cause maybe the pipe isn't reaching the waste water.

I should have been a bit clearer.. I just thought maybe someone else had the same problem and had a "just check *** " answer.

At this point, I’m probably just going to make a device to attach to the vacuum and just open the flush valve and suck it directly out of the toilet itself. When the boat is on the hard this fall, sort it out correctly then.

I just can't picture the setup you're describing. Doesn't match anything I've encountered, i.e., Porta Potty, MSD, or "full service" setup with separate water intake and separate holding tank. Do you have a make/model on the toilet?

Is the pump out tank vented? Putting suction on with no vent won't work... Don't think a manual pump would have that issue.

Here's the toilet.

The pump hose is on the right in the back of the tank. That hose leads to the starboard side of the boat where you would hook the suction hose.

The waste is held in the tank below the toilet itself.

One hose...waste goes in one hole...out the only hose connected to the tank itself. But in this case, it's not.

I haven’t removed that fitting on top of the tank yet. My thought is that the fitting isn't reaching the waste water, or has a vacuum leak inside the tank. I can't listen in the bathroom AND pump at the same time.

Turn water pump off, flush toilet and get something to keep flush valve open. Try to suck it it out, if you get nothing, then either the line is clogged or the pipe does not go to the bottom of the tank

Hold the toilet valve open and put some water down the suction line (need 2 people). If water starts flowing, then its not clogged, if it does come down, get a cheap snake drain cleaner and snake it out like any other drain
