I bought a 25S Tollycraft and put a new motor in it. 350 Mercruiser 270 HP.
I put a new composite 4 blade prop on it, 14X18.
I took it out today and it goes 30 mph at 3800 rpm.I can get it up to 4100 rpms. Thats tops.

Stock is 240 HP and a 15X17 prop.
Top speed should be high teens to low 20's.

Volvo 280 leg.

It purrs like a kitten and handles like a dream at about 28 miles an hour. Doesn't sound like the motor is working hard or lugging or anything like that.
I('m just wondering if maybe I am putting too much stress on the old leg. Or the old boat for that matter. It gets up on plane and cruises great.
30mph on both the Gps and the boat speedometer.

Max rpm is too low for the engine, what year is the engine? The drive is not the problem, it will handle anything you hook to it. But you are lugging the engine a bit.

I figured the max rpm was a little low.
I might get a little more out of it, but it's new and doesn't even have 2 hrs on it.
Didn't want to press it to hard.
2012 mercruiser.
It has a carb. Not fuel injected.
I believe max rpm should be somewhere around 4500.
I can see myself cruising around the 3500 range.
I just don't know if I will be hurting the engine.
