All, I have a 2003 150 Merc XR6 Engine and per the Manual I got with this recent buy the ignition emits a beep when turned on. I cannot hear this beep (others can of course) due to being tone deaf to this particular tone. My question is# 1 is this the same sound that I would get if it overheats and if the oil system is low or fails?

#2 is what can I put in the the wiring system to replace with a tone I can hear.

I am sure I'm not the only older, gunfire related hearing victim. thanks Tacomaj

I'm quite sure that you could change the sounder with another or perhaps even a flashing light too. I dont know the capabilities of the alarm system when it comes to current capability, you may need something in the middle to isolate the engine alarm signal from whatever it is your going to use instead.

I work with alarm systems daily and this is a common problem. Have your marine technician, or any electronic technician for that matter, measure the amount of current draw for your existing buzzer and then get a reasonably close match to a buzzer with a pitch that you can hear. Most electronic suppliers and alarm suppliers should have a stock on different ones.
