Too drain or not too drain

I have a 2002 Glastron 205GX with a 5.0GL Volvo Penta with the SX drive. My question is, is it better to drain the block and manifolds after each use? The drain/flush set up on my boat makes this very easy to do. Takes about 5 min for the whole thing....

seems like a science/chemistry thing. does metal rust faster when damp or immersed in water? i would say if it is salt water for sure flush.

Hello Senior, Welcome to Iboats.

It's up to you if you are in fresh water.
If you are in Salt water, then flushing is a must if you want to keep your manifolds in tact.

I think I need to clairify. I always flush the engine when I get back. Is it better to drain it all like winterizing or let it set.

My opinion is, if you use the boat often, that's a lot of trouble to go through, and to be honest, I doubt you alter the corrosion much if at all. Iron rusts in or out of water.

If you are really concerned about prolonging the life of your block, go buy an aftermarket closed cooling setup.

I have a closed cooling system but I always drain the risers. If the riser gaskets fail water will get into the engine. On a raw water system I would think it would be best to leave water in the block to slow the oxidation process.
