Too far gone?

Hey everyone,

After being boatless for the last ten years my parents just purchased a brand-new Glastron GT180 with a 150 HP Merc Four Stroke outboard. On their maiden voyage yesterday my dad found some rocks and tore some chunks off that brand-new prop.

She sent me the photo I attached; I think it's time for a new prop. What do you guys think?

Some would say it can repaired(and used ONLY as a spare).

But you don't want to risk running a vibrating (repaired) prop on your nice new motor.

If it was mine, I'd buy a new one and not risk damage to my new lower unit. :)

Re: Too far gone?

A good prop shop could get that one running as good as new.

With 150 hp, I'd suggest going to a stainless prop if the pocketbook allowed it. I used to go thru a prop a year on my inboard outboard. When switching to a stainless, I used it over 10 years with scarcely a scratch. They just last much longer.

If you go back with another aluminum prop, buy a new one and then have the old one rebuilt to use as a spare.

Thanks for the feedback everyone! The ended up getting a new prop and elected not to repair this one.
