boat pulls to starboard, loosen the trim tab above the propeller, turn it a degree or two to starboard and retighten.

Re: Too Low?

I had read in other posts in the other (non-engine repair) forum that the cavitation plate should be about even with the bottom of the hull-- don't know if this is always true, but yours is certainy lower than that.

I was told by my local boat shop that it should be 1 inch higher then the bottom and race boats have thiers upto 6 inches above the bottom.

Re: Too Low?

trim tab = that little flat thingy hanging down from the antiventilation plate behind the prop...don't see it in your pic but I thought it was just the angle or something.

Raising motor to 0" to 1" above keel should improve your performance, more RPMs, more speed, don't know about the handling thing though.

Re: Too Low?

My boat used to pull very hard at WOT until I raised the motor about 1 1/2 inches higher on the transom. Now my rpm is up closer to where it should be and most of that pulling is gone. Night and day difference in how it handles!

Re: Too Low?

That's the exhaust outlet/water inlet not a trim tab.
On older non-thru-hub OMC motors the anti-ventilation plate is normally set low, lower than the hull. This will not result in handling issues. Which motor is this anyway?

Re: Too Low?

Yeah, it should be an inch or so lower than the hull then. That other business you refer to in your other post is not right though, the engine should not be at an angle at all. Examine the mounting brackets - they redesigned them in I think '64 to make them stronger. Make sure one hasn't been replaced with an incompatible one or something. Also, check the rubber isolators to make sure they're not torn.
