I am in the process of putting on new stator, trigger, and switch box on a 1988 60hp mariner. I am now told I should also replace plug wires also. What do you think? The reson for changing the parts is because of the dreaded wire rot. Boat was running rather well, and messed up a few times, but thought maybe it was due to un-insulated wires getting together from trigger. Any advice will be taken and used. Thanks.

As long as you are going to the hassle and expense of doing all that wiring/electrical, why would you not want to replace the plug wires?? On a motor that old, that is the first thing I would replace. I make my own. 35cents a foot at NAPA and a few bucks for the end connectors. One less electrical thing taken out of the loop that might be a problem.
