Too much corrosion, or overly worried?

This is presumably a 1986 Mariner 40. Normally I am a Johnnyrude guy, but I may have something up my sleeve with this. The woman says the flywheel spins freely, but hasn't been run in 2 years.
Now, I have some pretty ugly motors, but that is from other issues. Is this too much corrosion to work with, or am I overly concerned?

BB-,

Nobody likes the corrosion, especially when it's a little heavy in places, but I've worked on - and taken out - engines with a lot more corrosion than that. (Most everyting I work on has been in salt water.) I don't know if the powerhead or lower unit internals are sound, but the old girl doesn't look too bad from here. I'd take her out on a date.

I would be more concerned about what the plumbers tape is holding together. Good luck!

Clean the corrosion as best you can and then spray or paint some LPS 3 or Boeing Boeshield on it. It has a lot of life left in it.

make sure you can get parts. ran into some Japanese built mariners, that parts are extremely hard to find. agree on the plumbers strap. it is definately holding something. chase the serial #.

Well, it sold right out from under me here. Darn. Wasn't quick enough on the fly. She was selling a 1986 14 foot Mckee, with that motor, and a good trailer for 250. Soonest I could pick up would be about 8:00 that night. Someone else got it at about 6:00.
