Hi, I would like to know if a 115hp long shaft, on a jack plate, mounted on the transom of a 1969 Wellcraft runabout would be a good set up. I am not sure of the model but it is fiberglass and has a lap strake design. I would be putting the self adjusting trim tabs on (and possibly dole fin stabilizer). Do you think the leverage from the extra length shaft and set back will make for a bad ride(planing, porpoising, prop wash etc)? I have bought, sold and owned several boats over the last couple of years but this one I really want to put together and use,
Thanks for all the help, Bill in NY.

From everything I have read, setting the motor back from the transom generally improves performance. The adjustable jack plate should allow you to position the engine vertically for the long leg.

More importantly, is the boat is rated for 115hp? If it is, why use tabs or fins? It should perform just fine. If the boat is only rated for a 60 or so hp, I would not try it.
