So I drove to the gas station thinking my boat needed fuel, I put in a quart of oil and started to fill up. All of a sudden the pump stopped. Tank was already full after 3 gallons I have an 18 Gallon tank. My question is I know I may have too much oil in the tank, should I continue running it? Empty tank out? or can I empty about half of it out then re-fill without oil? 1989 88spl

Remember, during break-in you run at 24:1. Assuming you're at 50:1 already that quart plus the three unmixed gallons puts you close to 30:1 or so (I think). Run it.

It'll be smoky for awhile - so what.

I agree. Remember the old adage that more is much better than non at all. Run it.

Like he said, right now you're about 30:1. It will most likely run just fine, probably unnoticable if you're running fast. Trolling, it might foul up the plugs, but I really doubt it.

Also like he said, you mix double oil during break in - and also if you're testing a oil injection system, you're supposed to put 50:1 in the tanks and then observe the oil tank to see if the oil is being used (which results in double oiling also). I've never heard of people having significant performance problems doing this.

If it were me, I'd just go for a ride and burn off 5 gallons of the rich mixture doing something high speed (meaning not trolling or idling) - cruising, skiing, tubing, etc. Then add 5 gallons of plain gas and you'll be back around 45:1 at which point forget about it. I've used 40:1 and never had any plug fouling, even trolling.

The good news/bad news deal if it were my boat, is good: it would only take about 20 minutes at WOT to burn 5 gallons... bad: it would only take about 20 minutes.... ;-)
