Too much RPM?

Is is possible to go to an unsafe RPM with the recommended prop, or will the RPMs just flatten out and reach the maximum then stop?

A fellow boater (friend) told me that I needed to keep my RPMs around 4500 or under, because it could damage the engine. My RPMs seem to creep up at WOT if I just leave it, but I've never dared to go past the 4500/4600 mark.

Ayuh,... With the Right prop, the motor is unable to go Any faster, as it's at it's Maximum Horsepower...

Why'd you start another thread, this should be in your Other thread...

Re: Too much RPM?

Is the motor actually increasing rpm or is it possibly the tach reading changing as the
tach heats up.It isn't going to hurt your motor to occasionally run 50 or 100 over.
I don't routinely run a wot (wide open throttle) for extended periods I feel it shortens the life of the motor. But I don't hesitate to pull skiers etc.

Ok, thanks. Good to know.

I started another thread, because I figured it was a different topic, sort of. I didn't want to veer off in another direction.
