Too much SeaFoam ?? possibly?

My '83 Johnson has been running great recently. I replaced the fuel tank, got rid of all the gunk that was in it. Now running a clean tank, fresh fuel, good oil and all things seem working right. I recently heard about SeaFoam and have started using SeaFoam instead of StaBil in my fuel (just in case it's going to sit for a while). But, I haven't been very scientific about how much I'm adding, just kinda pouring it from the bottle into the tank, little here, little there. Last fuel fill I added more SeaFoam and now the motor idles poorly, runs poorly at low speeds, occasionally bogs down when trying to accel from low speeds. I'm wondering if I've added too much SeaFoam. Is that possible? There's probably the equivalent of a whole can in 12 gallons of fuel.

What you probably did was break loose some carbon and foul your plugs. Either that or you broke loose some gunk in the fuel system and clogged up your jets. You'd be hard pressed to add too much seafoam to a 12 gal tank.

That amount of SeaFoam will not bother the engine but it will clean things up if there was any gunk in the system as was mentioned. However, in the future, you don't need to use that much as a "preventive" measure. Use about half a can. High concentrations are used to remove carbon from the engine.

check you compression, and spark, then you may have to clean and reassemble with new carb kits. i'm betting you have dirty carbs.

Dirty carbs is always a possibility, but change the plugs first. Sea Foam often fouls them and sometimes they don't even look like anything is wrong. Plugs are cheap and easy and a common problem with sea-foam even in car and motorcycles (I use it on everything....lol)

Thanks Green. I'll try that first. Like you said, plugs are cheap and easy. Does anyone know what my plug gap should be for an '83 Johnson 60hp, 2-cyl, 2-stroke?

I wouldnt stop using stabil. I run both stabil and seafoam thru every tank and have so for years with no ill effects..... just go by the directions on the can.

Well, I replaced the plugs today with new Champions and she'll be on the water tomorrow...hopefully. We'll see how she runs.
