Re: took top off trim motor

I think I would purchase a new trim motor. What motor, HP and model number are we talking about? Is it the 1978 v4 140 ?

you may also look into having it rebuilt..this may be cheaper than buying new or buying a reworked motor.you can go to your local outboard repair shop and ask about it. normally they wont do the repair inhouse.but they will most likely be willing to tell you who they have do the work.mostly because it will save them time of trying to keep track of the work themselves.take it to the mentioned rotary electric shop and get an estimate. they seldome give a quote because it is difficult to tell what all may be wrong with it at first glance.a good shop will install new brushes and will re-varnish the windings.be sure you ask about the standard procedure in order to find out what all they do on top of the repair. it cost a bit more but well worth the money.if you have a shop which sells electric motors they can also give you a name of a reputible repair shop.starter repair shopes can do the work.just a thought to save you some money.
