I have a 2 stroke Mercury 2003 Jet20 I am putting together an on the water took and parts kit. I want to keep it simple but cover most common issues. I will not think of nearly everything. Suggestions? Thanks to all.

Well, it really depends on you knowledge of your engine, and your skill set to troubleshoot and repair a breakdown.

A spare fuel line, connectors, hose clamps, screw drivers, a few feet of wire, electrical tape, to start.

Marine radio.-----VHF and learn to basics of how to call for help.

Modern outboards are pretty reliable. They do not break down, such they are fixable on the water, very often.

A few basic tools are handy,(screwdrivers, adj wrench, pliers) plus some electrical tape. The most important tool is a tow home. So towing insurance is a good idea, or some friends that owe you a favor.

keep up with the maintenance and you will most likely never touch the engine on the water.....ever.

if you had a traditional outboard, then keep a prop wrench and spare prop on board. with a jet, not sure you could fix a broken impeller on the water.

for everything else, a VHF radio, Cell Phone, Towing insurance and a credit card.
