I have a 1983 Johnson 7 1/2 hp OB.
The flywheel has 3 threaded holes in the top. I think they are for 1/4 inch bolts. How do I get the nut off? What kind of special tool do i need to hold the flywheel. A 3/4 inch socket fits the nut.

hi luther. The strap wrench is your best bet for keeping the flywheel from spinning. They're super cheap and you'll find all kinds of uses for it. I got two of them, one large and one small, or about $8 at Harbor Freight, but they're available all over the place. Some folks also make one out of a loop of nylon strap attached to a strudy stick too. I've done both, but a proper strap wrench is well worth the moolah. Here's a pic.
