Years ago (many years) I recall a mechanic telling me that running an inboard/outboard at WOT for any length of time was damaging to the engine. He recommended backing off the throttle a little and running it at about 80% to protect the engine.
He also said that outboards were designed to run without problem or damage for longer periods at WOT. "Run it like you're going to run it", said he.
What is present day thinking regarding outboard 4 stroke operation? WOT ok during longer runs or back off of throttle a bit?
Thanks
