So, I'm done repairing/replacing my transom and I have a question.

Does the metal that was originally on the top of my transom serve a purpose, and if so, what is a good way to refabricate one for a curved transom?

Re: Top of transom (metal)

In production the top edge of the transom can take more time than desired to make it look good, the metal strip covers the unsightly seam quickly and for a low cost. The area under the strip is sometimes left unsealed (not good) and when water gets in the transom rots. If you want to spend the time to make the top edge look finished then there's no need for the metal strip. You need to glass over the top and make sure the cap is tied into the transom very well, then fair the surface until you're happy. The metal strip can help protect it from damage, but that's not really a reason the manufacturer put's it there.
