I got the lower unit in and filled the lower unit with oil the top plug would not tighten up I was told to get an expanion plug any other way

Thanks
wade1961
Wade.... That problem can be corrected by having a stainless steel heli coil installed, but that procedure is not for a novice. If you're not experienced in that field, let your local machine shop take care of it.
Joe's right. If the plug hole is in need of resizing or installing a heli-coil caution must be taken not to introduce any metal shavings into the gearcase.Draining and flushing of lower unit may be required after hole repair procedure.
Sometimes the drain screw gasket will not seal due to the larger diameter hole drilled for the Heli-Coil insert. Find a a thin washer that will fit into the recess and epoxy it to the gearcase. The drain screw gasket will then seal against the new washer and everything will be fine.
