How fast should our boat be with a OMC V8 and 225 HP? I want to test different propeller in the summer.

It is a 1973 reinell rv2200

21 foot long
96 inch beam
50 inch depth
50 gal gas
wt.3600 lbs.

are more then 40 mph realistic?

40's about right, maybe a bit more.

What condition is the prop now?
How many RPMs can you get now? 1-2 people, 1/2 tank of fuel a cooler and normal equipment.
You can put another prop on and get a bit more speed but the motor could be damaged.
That unit should run about 4400-4500 at wide open.

I wanted a bit more speed. I changed from a 17p to a 19p and got 3 mph more.
The economy went down by about 20%

We had that same exact boat but in the 24' version with the exact same engine and it would hit 40 with 2 people on it and the engine at WOT. A lot less when normally cruising with a full crew and gear.
