Definitely remove that thing. Folks use em for low speed planing and control. If you want to plane slowly, either load up the bow with weight or get some trim tabs. I let my kids sit in front when we want to go easy, I can do that since mine's a bowrider.
People also use them to stop porpoising, you can do that with your trim adjustment.
I bet you get a couple mph at the top end, but it will probably wallow a little worse at just above headway speed.

The boat I have mine on has a top speed of 42 so it's not going to be the same as your Baja but there was no speed drop with mine when I put it on. It would corner harder before cavitating after it was on but the steering was stiffer. I put it on because my hull needed it for the water sports I was using the boat for. It's still on that boat but now I've got an inboard too. :)

It's easy to take off or put back on so try it and see what's best for you. You'll probably have to adjust the steering trim.

Whale tails can drag reducing top speed. Whale Tails assist in getting on plane faster, or in some cases allowing a slower planing speed. A Baja is a performance boat, and should not require any assistance getting on plane. You also need to consider appearance. Whale Tails are ugly......take that POS off....

A whale tale won't hurt top speed IF they're at the right height - just above the water when at speed. They serve a purpose, to help get you on plane at a lower speed which is very useful for water sports. My Checkmate (a performance hull) is a handful below 20 mph or so. My son likes to wakeboard at 18 mph, so that's a problem. The whale tale fixes that, and when the boat's hauling A$# on the pad the fin is out of the water where it can't create drag.

OK, let's see a show of hands - how many here who bad mouths whale tales have actually tried them and taken a little time to compare performance both with and without? Or maybe even taken the time to adjust engine height?

Big diff between an OB and an I/O for height adjustment ;)

True. But Baja's aren't all that fast anyway. (At least compared to Checkmates). :D

Actually Machz, just take it off and decide whether you like the boat better with or without the fin. Then it's your duty to report back what your verdict is.
