Just curious if anyone has any experience with the Crownline 200DB? It has a mercruiser 5.7 with alpha 1 gen 2 out drive with 3 blade as prop and I was wondering about top speed, maneuverability and any issues. It is a 1996 model as well

Depending on which prop and pitch that's on it, how much load is in it and exactly which 5.7 ( carb or mpi is about 40-50 hp diff) would expect top speed to be in the 45-50 mph range

Boat magazine list it reached 54.2 mph with the 5.7 efi

Thanks. Picked it up used and the person I bought it from had zero idea about speed etc. next thing is to figure out how to remove the now gunnel cushions so I can reupholster them.

Might be worth getting a service manual and getting any PM done as it sounds like it may not have been serviced much

bow cushions either have screws in between the pleats, Z-clips and two screws on the bottom, christmas tree fasteners or some sort of screw from the back side.

I have a seary 205 with 5.0 mph 260hp (same as carb 350). With factory prop I was getting 62mph which was dangerous as it was similar to black ice feeling. I installed a Mercruiser high 5 (5bladed prop) now I go 55 mph with 1 or 6 people on board and can pull a stump out of the ground. It is fantastic.

anyway my boat is 3200lbs.

Funny side story most 205's come with carb v8 or v6 mpi (220hp). difference in price between v6 mpi and 5.0 v8 mpi was $80. $80 for 40hp more and ?? torque. Should be standard? NO, again haul wasn't made for 60 mph plus, usually you see the 5.0 mph on 205's with wakeboard tower.

I’d suspect the dash speedo is a little optimistic in this case. Could be wrong. If I am and this is indeed GPS speed. I’d love to hear more around rpms and what prop you were running to see early 60’s from her. I have a similar engine with a cam (not well suited to it), on a performance hull with steps and pad. She has seen late 60’s on occasion but usually nearer mid 60’s all being well. She is only 18ft and designed to go quick. If you’re getting early 60’s from that size of boat and without any performance attributes in the hull, love to hear more. All the best. Allan.

I get up to 45+ in my 18 foot bow rider and it scares me to go any faster. I usually throttle down at that point. And I only do that once in a while when the lake is smooth as glass.

Everyone wants to go faster. They go through great lengths, money and labor only to squeeze out just an extra few HP.

I think, unless your boat is designed to go fast, it may be dangerous to push it too far.
