Toplac - How to keep a wet edge?

Hi all,<br />I'm just about ready to apply the final coat of white toplac to my boat. On the previous coats, I found it difficult to keep a wet edge because I am painting the whole thing by myself and by the time I get around the boat, the applied paint has begun to thicken and it is hard to blend in any adjoining new paint.<br />I have been using one jam-jar of toplac thinned with 2 capfuls of no.1 thinner.<br /><br />Any advice?

I know nothing about toplac but could you work some in one direction then work some in the other direction and maybe try thinning the blend areas a little more.

Read about it HERE.<br />I used Brightsides to repaint my little GRP dinghy and it worked out OK, but I don't intend to keep it long, I'll use Toplac on my new boat.

OK,after reading about this stuff the one thing that popped out to me was that it's not for intended use below water line.Does this mean this stuff will bubble up,fade, peel off?Does it make sense to put this on where your going to be in the water all the time.Doesn't seem worth the time or effort when there are other products out there that seem more durable.Anyone ever use this stuff?

Re: Toplac - How to keep a wet edge?

They don't recommend toplac for below the waterline but since my boat is going to be on the trailer 95% of the time and only on the water for maybe 5 hours max at a time, it should be fine. <br />I too had never heard of toplac until I was just picking up the Brightsides container at the shop and the guy behind the counter said "why don't you use toplac, its much better, I've been using it on my boat for years"<br /><br />If my boat was gonna be in the water for more than a day or two at a time, I'd use something else.<br /><br />I discovered that getting a near-perfect finish is possible by thinning the paint slightly, working really fast, applying a VERY thin coat with a foam roller each time and tipping it off vertically ASAP with a foam brush.
