Really newb question but I accidentally purchased a long shaft torqeedo 1003s today and the store is a fair distance away. I wanted to understand if there are any differences that I should be aware of when considering short or long for a 8' dinghy or is it all the same for that application? I don't want to drive back to exchange plus they are out of stock.

You will lose some speed and range due to the extra drag.

Thanks well it turns out that they (Cabelas) messed up the receipt and rung it in as long shaft I verified the model number is 1003s which is supposed to be short shaft but have no idea how they measure the shaft because it is definitely longer than my 3hp Evinrude shaft. They are sitting right next to each other, definite shaft envy :D.

Anyhow I have not had a good experience with Cabelas so far.

Any ideas the proper way to measure shaft length on those electrics since there is no cavitation plate?
