I was wondering if anyone knows the torque rating for the big nut that holds the flywheel on??
1981 25hp Johnson.
Do I just slide the flywheel back down over the key slot and tighten the nut??
Thank you!

Should be in your shop manual. Fail to do it right, and you can wreck the crank and the flywheel. Make sure the tapers are clean, oil free and dry.

100-105 ft/lb seems high to me. My manual for my says 1972 25hp is 45 ft/lb. The higher torques seemed to be for the higher hp engines. If I had a 1981 the difference in years between them would persude me to get a new manual for that year.

100 to 105 is correct for the 1980s

Thank you for the replies. Found it in the manual and it says 100-105. From my searches on here it did sound kind of high so I wanted to double check.
Is a strap wrench my best option for holding the flywheel in place?

If your flywheel has gear teeth, a flywheel turner will hold better against 100 ft-lbs.
