Hi, is there someone who could tell me the torque specs for the following on a 1996 90 HP Force:

1. The main crank bearing cap screws (for the piston connecting rod cap screws).

2. The cylinder head bolts, the 5/16" bolts that go through the water passage cover & head into the block. Is there a progressive torque on these and a pattern?

Thanks,

Re: Torque specs for 1996 90HP Force

Starting in 1996, (serial number 138600 and up) they did not give a head bolt torque spec.
Instead, they tell you to oil the threads and the underside of the bolt head.
Then tighten then in sequence till you reach 120 in-lbs, and then give each bolt an additional 1/4 turn.

The sequence, starting with the two center bolts, move in a counterclockwise circle, moving out 1 bolt per revolution.

Connecting rod spec is listed 2 different ways in my 2 manuals.
One says 120 in-lbs, then an additional 1/4 turn.

The other manual says 170 in-lbs.

So double check these numbers before you take my word for it.
Manuals are cheap, mistakes are expensive.
