I have a 59 SeaHorse 35 HP Johnson. I found that I had a blown Head Gasket. Ordered all my parts and now I need to find out the torque specs or how many lbs I need to torque them at when I put it all back together. Anyone tell me please.

18-20 ft/lbs

As you may know, start in the center and spiral outwards to achieve even torque.

Start with 10 ft/lbs, do a cycle, then 15 ft/lbs, do a cycle, then do the final 20 ft/lbs. The pattern is as important as the torque value.

I would also dress the head before reinstalling. Tape a piece of emory cloth to a piece of glass, and do figure 8s with the head until you achieve an even sanding of the head. You will be able to tell by the wear marks.

Re: Torque specs for SeaHorse

Thank You so much HighTrim. This is a work in progress for us. It was a garage kept boat.. In really good condition over all. I have replaced the impeller housing, and assembly. I am replacing the thermostat, gaskets, orings, whatever looked worn I'm replacing it. I pulled the head off to ck that and found the blown head gasket. I hope that when I get all of it replaced it will run like a sewing machine... smooth. Thanks again for your help.
