Torqueshift props?

I think I saw Bondo mention them last week on here somewhere. I did a search here for one but it didn't come up with anything so I was wondering where you get them at & how much they cost? I have a 1978 260 Merc I/O with 350 chevy engine. Since that gives more low end power would it also slow the boat down at idle a little bit so I can possibly troll without a kicker motor? This boat has a standard pitch prop for sea level. I forgot the number but can check it out in the morning. Thanks, HF.

Re: Torqueshift props?

http://www.land-and-sea.com/marine/torque-shift/torque-shift.htm

Here's their website. They've been out of production for some time now, but according to this site they're hoping to be back to production in Spring 2006....I'll believe it when I see it.

For now, your only option is to buy a used one on Ebay...I've seen them sell there in the $400 to $600 range. If memory serves they were around $800 or $900 brand new. Others here can correct me if I'm wrong on those guesses.

Bondo,

I tried your link out of curiosity and got the dreaded: Your search did not return any results.

Half Fast,

I agree with craze1. I sold a Torque Shift on EBay last year and got around $450 for it. They come up pretty often. There are at least two now . . . And yes, the lower pitch setting should slow you down at idle.

eBay Torque Shifts

I couldn't open Bondo's link either. But anyone can use the search function...there's some threads out there as this has been discussed quite a few times before.

Here's one torque shift link that refers to more torque shift links...say that 3 time fast...I dare ya!

http://forums.iboats.com/cgi-bin/ubb/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=40;t=000202#000000

But it appears the old links are no longer accessible...I guess I-boats has to purge on occasion....

It would move you 13 inches per rotation in theory, and your current prop probably moves you 17 or 19 inches per rotation. The slip factor (since the prop is turning in water) pretty much equals this out at idle speed.

I ran a TS on my 20 foot bowrider for three seasons and loved it----on plane in seconds with a boat full of people pulling two tubes.

However, the bushings were showing wear on the hub and if you are running these things HARD, get lots of spare parts. Bondo has a shop full of parts for these.

Actually,..... The 3 that I have are the 11" to 26" props,.....Rather than the 13" to 32" props.......
11" at idle is the reason I bought 1,....... Trolling,.... Slow......

And,...... That Shop Full of Spare Parts is 2 spare props,+ a Small Box of Pieces.........
But,........
I Do have my eye out for Other Boxes of Parts,............... ;)
(Anybody cleaning out Their garage,.??)

I have a torque shift that I'm probably going to end up selling on ebay. Don't use it enough to keep it. Has extra springs, and Z and ZZ cams :)

Bondo---oops, forgot about the two sizes.

HalfFast----you don't say what hull style or size of vessel you are pushing, but chances are you want the smaller pitch and diameter.

I was only pushing A 19-foot open bow, about 2,500 pounds, so the larger size was fine.
