Torquing Drive Gear stack

I just wanted to see if I set myself up for trouble or not. I'd rather err on the side of caution and redo it than take the chance.

Quick background, I have the Alpha 1, Gen 1, and I do have the small spacer in my bearing/drive gear stack. I did not change any bearings or gear, simply took it all apart to replace the upper and lower seals.

While torquing the locknut to 75 ft.lb I didn't have a hose clamp on hand but tried and successfully was able to torque the nut to 75 anyway, while rotating the bearing assembly. So, although nothing indicated to me that I had failed or set myself up for failure in any way, I realize that step must be important or they wouldn't have it in the manual.

Can someone please tell me what the hose clamp on the spacer is supposed to do in step 1, pg 3A-19?

Thank you.

Oh ok, I've already reinstalled and torqued, so I guess I don't need to disassemble and do it again then. Thank you.
