i have a 1980 johnson 35 sea-horse. it has an approx. total of 10 hours on it. my grandfather had it and ran it occasionally to keep it in shape. i disassembled and cleaned the carb. completely. i HAD it running good. the only problem i saw was a lack of water out of the pee hole at idle. once you spin the motor up it would pee all the time(better above idle but still there) the first time out(about 45 minutes) it ran like a bat outta hell. so today i brought it out with more gas. we got out for about an hour. as we went back to the dock it started losing power. well, now all it will do is idle. im gonna take the carb back off and see if the main jet is plugged. but if any of you have a suggestion, please let me know. im an auto mechanic and do 2-cycle engines, but boats have a little more to them so im looking for advice. please e-mail me at coprhed006@cs.com or call at (337)433-0593(work bernards mufflers 8 to 5:30) thanx Mr. Nate

Re: total loss of power

Does it sputter?
Miss?
Just not accellerate?
Fuel related: air leak in hose, primer bulb, carb, or weak fuel pump. 23 year old plastic and rubber has a tendency to crack and suck air in.

Squeeze the primer bulb and see if this helps. Does the bulb pump up hard? Or take a small squirt bottle with mixed fuel in it and spray it in the carb while trying to accellerate. Could also be restriction in fuel line or tank pickup.

Also check the float bowl for sediment or hangup.
