Ok guys, I'd love to hear a vote on this one....
I've been working on a Volvo Penta 280 outdrive that was in seriously bad shape when I bought it. Oil had not been changed in years, serious aluminum itting, etc.
I've got the upper gearcase totally disassembled and I'm replacing all the gaskets, etc on it. Sadly, though, I've tried absoutely everything I can think of to separate the intermediate and lower housings, (PB Blaster, Paint Thinners, propane torch, etc. ) but no dice, the bolts have probably never been removed . Prop shaft seems to turn fine, and from what I've read (and correct me if I'm wrong) there's not usually alot of maintenance done in the lower housing.
So here's the vote... Should I move on, reassemble, fill the pits, and repaint, or is it crutial to take look at the lower and intermedite housings?
Thanks! Bob.
