I was out in some rough seas today when I had a problem. I have a 2000 130hp Yamaha 2 stroke. My overheat buzzer went off and I immediatly cut the engine. I inspected the lower unit to see if I picked up a plastic bag and it was clear. Next, I checked the oil level and it was good. Just as I cut the engine, the telltale "pee" stream was present. I attempt to restart the engine and it was completely unresponsive(As if the battery had been removed, totally nothing)Is it possible for the overheat buzzer to go off for something other than overheating? It is possible I took some water into the engine, as it was very rough out there today. Could the overheat buzzer go off if there is a bad connection at the battery, or if there is a short circuit? I had to get towed back to the dock, but once there I tighened up the battery connections, and made sure the wire connections were all good and she started right up. I am truly baffled. I can see the overheat buzzer going off, but what would that have to do with the engine not restarting aferwards?
