I've got my engine running great. This is a 1981 hydrosport 15 ft bass boat with a 1978 evinrude engine 55 hp engine. When I'm in the boat by myself I can getty up and go, however when add antoher person I have to get them to move forwards until we get moving so the nose will get down, or try and drive while moving to the front, which is embarrassing and dangerous. The one time I ahd good luck getting up on plane and doing well with it I had only 6 gallons of gas with my dad in the boat. Now with 12 gallons and him in the boat nothing. To get up on plane I go into full throttle to get going and then once its over back off too cruising speed which right now is 3500 rpms varying it sine breaking it in. @ 3500 rpms to give you an idea of speed it around 18 mph. Thanks for any help.

Does the transom height match the motor height? If you cav plate isn't at the bottom of your boat, that may be the problem.

Is the hull dry?

Sounds like you may be carrying around a bunch of water logged foam or the engine isn't propped right.

Had a buddy with the same problem, I would have to go up front to get the bow down then it would run okay, checked his prop and he was running one for a 115-150 on a 50, like trying to start uphill in 4th gear.

Seems to me that boat/motor combo should run alot faster that, I have a 16' with a 50 and get 26-28mph consistently running a 13 1/4-15 prop, yours should be close to that.

Numbers should be on the hub in between blades.

Is the hull dry? have tried adjusting the trim pin closer to the transom, when you have a passenger? this pushes the bow down more when getting out of the hole.

Thanks the hull is dry, however this is a longer shaft engine 55975 and not the short 55974. So actually the engine is pretty far down in the water @ the lowest setting. I'm only running that slow right now because of breakin, it previously ran 32 once on plane on a good day with little waves. I say that my problem lies with the enginge being to far in the water and its not high enough. It doesn't have tilt nor trim auto. its all manual.

How much lower is your cav plate from the bottom of the hull? Measure it & let us know.

Set up and loading is a huge part of the performance of your outfit.
Move stuff around, fine tune the motor height and trim, weigh the boat to make sure you are not water laden in the foam and when all that is fine tuned, consider a prop change.

Your prop shaft should be parallel to the water's surface on a plane. Use the manual trim rod to adjust prop shaft angle.

Bit hard to see that when you are driving the boat and planing. If you are hanging over the stern to check it then you have shifted the load.
Best to play with the trim settings till you find the "sweet spot" in my opinion.

True, a drive by passing an observer on another boat or dock could also provide the info. Admittingly, manual tilt pins are a pain. My point, however, was my concern that "Moon" was using the tilt/trim to decrease the 1 3/4" with the comment "still two holes to move up," and in the meanwhile, getting the trim all out of whack.

Understand your point. Needs to get the height correct first and then play around with the trim. Makes perfect sense.
