Tough day at one of our local lakes...

Yesterday was a rough day for a fellow here at Lake Moultrie. We have two large lakes, Marion and Moultrie that are man-made. The buildings that were in the area before it was flooded (hydroelectric power plant) are still there, but underwater. It is very common for people to dive them to see what they can see. This fellow was snorkeling, and what he saw was a nearly 12' American Alligator - right after it took his arm off at the shoulder. Rescue personnel shot the gator, retrieved the man's arm, and sent it to the hospital with him. No word yet on reattachment progress...Stranger than fiction...

Last I heard the surgeons were still trying to determine if the arm was still viable. Poor guy. :(

WOW! At least he's alive. Hopefully they were able to reattach his arm.

Some news reports I saw this AM said they were not able to re-attach. Man, that's tough.

They said he was especially leery of alligators and wouldn't even retrieve golf balls that landed close to water hazards.

Wow, Glad there aren't gators around Ruby Ridge island!! Too cold fer em'. Plently of "crawdads" but a 6"-8", (which is as big as ya get), might take a corn off yer toe, if they got real excited, (not an arm). Not good at all. JR
