I have a 1993 30 hp Johnson pull start. I just did a tiller to remote conversion. The problem I have now is that I dont have a kill switch. The kill switch on the tiller was broken so the mechanic disconnected it. I would just throttle the moter down to kill it. Now that I did this conversion, I need to install a man overboard switch in order to fish some small local tournaments. I found one on here and I'm sure there or others, but I dont know where to hook it up. The tiller one was not connected so can you tell me how to install the a new switch. Any recommendations on a good switch would be appreciated as well.

I'm not sure what wires are which. Her are some pics for the wiring on my motor.I see a black wire, but not a black yellow.

Thanks for the input. Either I'm not looking in the right place or the wire colors are different on the aftermarket ignition pack.

Is the left wire not black and yellow?

According to the CDI installation instructions, the middle wire on the 5 wire powerpack plug should be the black with yellow stripe kill wire. Click the thumbnail, please.

went back out to take a look and I did find the yellow/back. The yellow was pretty light so I didnt notice it.

So my next questions is how to attach the kill switch. Do I just get some wire taps and tap into the wires?

Ok, I just ordered the kill switch suggested above. What gauge wire do I need to get to connect it to the motor? Do I just get some wire taps and tap into the wires?

I believe you need to run one wire from the switch to ground and the other to the wire you found, those trailer splice connectors should do the job for the yellow/black wire. Hopefully someone else will backup my statement. Same gauge should do it (14 or 18 gauge)

One wire goes to a solid ground on the engine block. Trace the black w/yellow stripe wire through the plug and follow it to the connection; connect the second switch wire there.

Great
So just to clarify, I tap the yellow and black wire, and attach the second wire to an engine ground. The kill switch will be delivered on Friday, so I will post the results this weekend.
