I have a 27' Sea Ray Sundancer that probably weighs around 11,000 lbs. on the trailer when loaded. I?ve been using a 2004 GMC 2500 Sierra with a 6.6 L diesel from work to tow it and I love this truck, unfortunately it?s going away. I?m looking at a 2003 Dodge Ram 2500 with a 5.7L Hemi as a replacement. I know this has less power but I?m wondering if it?s adequate. I?ll probably move it about 10 times a year and the toughest haul I have will be once a year from Phoenix to Lake Powell and back. Anyone with experience using this vehicle for heavy hauls?

looks like the rams towing cap. is 12,000 lbs. you should be alright. might lag a little bit more than the sierra but i would think you would be fine.

Re: Tow Vehicle Advice

I've got a Hemi 1500, my total weight of my FW 211 Liberator w/454+trailer is around 5k pounds and IT lags pretty bad.

When I'm going up on on-ramps to high ways, I have to 1st gear it to get speed.

If your going to get a 2500, make sure you get the tow gears which are I think 4.10:1...

Try to save up a little bit more to get the 2500 with the cummins, those will HAUL!
