I recently got a 14ft Smokercraft ProMag - Aluminum, not sure how much it weighs. I need a something/truck to pull it with and was thinking about the S10 ( 4cyl/6cyl. - not sure ) . It would only be used to pull the boat and sit other times. My other car is a civic that I use to commute to work. So a big investment isnt needed. Would only be towing it 30 miles each way.

I once had a 17 1/2 ft. Bayliner that I pulled with a Mazda B2300. Seemed like a little too much boat for the truck.

Please advise.

advise you to get actual weight of boat and trailer, and check the tow rating of the truck. It's the only way to be sure.

Mid sized trucks like s-10's and rangers tow rating vary GREATLY depending on how they are equiped.

The S-10 would be fine. The best way to find out is to actually load up the rig (boat, motor, trailer, gas, battery) and get it weighed. That way you'd know exactly what to get. I tow a little 13' whaler, 40 HP evinrude, either a 6 or 3 hp kicker, with a Isuzu pickup 4- banger. No problems, but the whole rig is about 1000 lbs:
6 hp = 50 lbs
40 hp = 135 lbs
Hull = 360 lbs
Battery and Fuel = 85 lbs
Trailer = 300 lbs
-------------
930 lbs

A S-10 in either 4 or 6 cylinder should be just fine for your boat.

I think you would be totally fine dude with S10. I pull my 12 foot with my 4 cyl Ranger and do fine. I even have bigger tires than stock so the gearing is a little messed up and still do fine. I usually have the boat loaded down with my 18 horse, near 10 gallons of gas for the boat (I like to just drive alot), camping supplies, gas grill, wood, and anything else you can think of for camping. If you are looking for one though and do not plan on driving it any other time, I would go ahead and get the v6 over the 4 cyl.

I used to pull a 3200# boat with my old S-10, it had a 350 V8 though... :D

But seriously, a 4.3 V6 would do nicely and depending on how light your boat is, the 4cyl model might even do the trick. I'd opt for the V6 though. Stay away from the 2.8 V-6.

Any small truck will tow your boat easily. You could even tow it with your Civic if it comes in under 1000 lb fully loaded.

Yep, an S10 would be a good truck to pull that boat. I've got a 16' Lund that weighs in at about 950# fully loaded. I use my Subaru Legacy 2.5L to pull that and it does it well. You shouldn't have a problem with a truck.
