Getting ready to tow a 19' Bow-rider:
The boat specs that I can find say it should weigh around 2200lbs. And the trailer (Shorelandr roller 1986) might be around 400lbs. (?)

When I took it to the scales today it came up at about 3600lbs.

Should I be worried about this, or does this sound normal? Should I worried about "water-logging"?

When I bought the boat last fall I was careful to check the numbers (I even wrote to Shorelander for a weight), and asked other people in boating industry about final weight totals...

Add in the weight of fuel and any stuff in the boat and then figure in that boat mfg seem to under report boat weight. 2200 seems really light unless they didn't include the weight of the engine/sterndrive. For comparison the 2005 bayliner 195 I had was the same size and published at 2650lbs - which was also lower than reality even dry.

Add batteries, fuel, anchor, any added gear like radios, speakers, everything..... Even engine oil is extra.

The newer Searay 190 has a listed dry weight of 3,000 lbs. I'd believe that trailer weighs 400 lbs So 3,600 lbs sounds right in the ballpark.

So at 2200lbs, that is a Pachanga and not the 19 foot Seville that weighed in at 2006lbs? The picture looks like a Seville from angle of the picture but I can't quite tell?

@jkust,
It is a Seville, but NADA came up with 2200lbs.

The floor is sound but it seems really heavy. I am really worried I bought a water-logged boat.
Is there any way to tell for sure?

That's what I was thinking...I come up with that model weighing in at a hair over 2000lbs inclusive of the sterndrive. If that is indeed the case, then your weight has me wondering. The published weights aren't always very accurate but still gives me pause.

Sure, take a core sample. It's invasive but is how you can tell for sure.

@ jkust,

The local SeaRay salesman (also the consignment place where I bought my boat) sent me this:
http://www.searay.com/boat_graphics/...DERNKAK512.pdf

It states that my SeaRay (in the same class as one listed) should weigh about 2600lbs.
Does that make you change your mind at all about the weight of 3600 for total weight including trailer?

thanks Smoke,

Only way to find out I guess...
Where do you think would be the best spot on the deck to drill?

well first off I don't think your weight is out of line... second you drill into whatever is suspect.....

in an extreme case you might drill a hundred holes..... My suggestion..... Make a note of how much it weighs, how much fuel and gear is aboard, put this out of your mind and go boating.

In a year weigh it again..... if it weighs another 200 lbs THEN start worrying

A bit of research and I see that the Seville has a flat windshield, add-on swim platform for cuddys and cutout on bowriders, smaller powerplants (rarely the 260), a vertical stern, and was the entry level.

Sorrento has a curved windshield, integrated swim platform, at least a 260, stylized stern to integrate the swim platform, and was the uplevel boat.

I presume they know what they sold you and so it must be the Sorrento as the brochure indicates. If that is the case, your weights would be right about as expected....if it is the +-2000lb Seville then to me you have some extra weight in there somewhere. It is not at all uncommon for a boat of that vintage to have a rot issue. After enough owners, it only takes one bad one to improperly store it. I see waterlogged, old glass boats all year long as they are many times sitting way too low in water. Sometimes I can't believe they are still in service. Hopefully that isn't the case for you and nobody like to have to drill into their boat to test for rot but it is what it is.
