hi guys,
Im going to be purchasing a Turning Point Legacy prop but im a bit undecided on which pitch to go with. so im looking for anyone that uses these props for suggestions on how these things run.
My current setup 16' Bayliner Capri BR, 90 hp merc 2001 2stroke. OEM black max 12.75 x 21. with full load of people im running about 37mph (gps) at about 5400RPM. boat is a bit sluggish moving out and blows out a lot in turns and rough water. mainly used for tubing/cruising.
So which pitch would you folks suggest, stay with 21 or drop to a 19? Im leaning to the 19 but i don't know if these props tend to run higher RPMS due to the vent hole design and stuff. So let me hear your opinions.
my other choice is just going right to a stiletto bay pro I 13.25 x 19. but i dont think a stainless prop will make much difference on a 16 foot boat.
what you folks think?

thanks,
Glen

Speaking generically if your experiencing venting and sluggish hole shot consider a 4
bladed prop.I'm not in a position to suggest anything too specific but I believe they suggest a 1" drop in pitch when going to the 4 blade.

Re: TP Legacy pitch suggestions

i guess to clarify my question. do the turning point Legacy/hustler props tend to run higher rpms then plain old black max merc props or do they run lower? same perhaps? the turning point prop wizards give me two different results based on if its an older version that only recommends hustlers vs the one direct on their website that will suggest either. the older versions like on some of their vendor sites suggest 17p hustlers or 19p. the newer version only suggests 21 or if i went stainless a 23.

thanks,
Glen

When I rpl'd my bmax with a hustler, WOT rpms were almost identicle, but speed increased by 3 mph. Holeshot was improved due to the venting and blowout in turns was eliminated. I swapped a 21" for a 21"

FWIW - venting does not affect high speed performance.

IDK the dia of the original prop. Diameter is secondary to the overall prop design anyway.

What is the WOT spec for your engine?

iboats has the TPs for $105 including hub. If you can swing it, you might want to get two props, one for cruising, one for tubing. Or remember, TP will exchange pitches as long as the one yoou return is still in new condition.

WOT is 5400. i was thinking of going down to the 19p to test it and deal with the 20 dollar exchange fee if it revs too high. of course i'd rather keep my 20 bucks if i can come to a better conclusion thanks to peoples input like yours. Very much appreciated.

Spec is 5400, you're turning 5400; I'd stay with the 21"
