Tracker Gas Fill Issue?

Hi guys.

Well I purchased a 2010 Tracker Pro Guide V 17ft dual console this past June and like everyone had a few issues and things I didn't care for. One problem I have been experiencing regards attempting to fill the gas tank on the boat....instead of the tank filling up and having the gas pump click off, the gas shoots out of the fill cap and all over the splash well. It has gotten to the point that i simply put a rag over the fill hole to prevent excessive spillage.

Has anyone else experienced this problem?

Yup!
Just watch the gallons and slow it up when your getting to the top or fill on the slowest pressure.

I know it sucks........same thing on my 2006 Pro Guide V16

same thing here, 2010 pro guide v16. i usually use 5 gal. gas cans to put fuel in though, but the times i did use a gas pump, the same thing happened to me.

unrelated question for ya pmjasper.. your rod locker latches, do they actually lock securely? on mine, the tabs on the inside of the compartment are almost vertical so you can pop it open with a bit of a tug. i tried bending those tabs down some, but i couldn't get the lock to engage at all when i did that. just wondering what yours look like. -dt

Re: Tracker Gas Fill Issue?

Thanks for the responses.

My wife and I opted for a Tracker because an Alumicraft was just too much money with all the accessories we wanted. The boat was pretty much what we wanted but here were/are a few issues we have had:

First time out the throttle was fairly loose and you really had to go down pretty far to get any movement. The engine also pulled to the right badly. Both were fixed as best as they could have been by the dealer.

Water was POURING down through the captain's console and at first we had no idea why. After taking it back to the dealer they could not find a problem. It took my father-in-law on his visit from NJ to show me that there was a large gap between the gunwale and the console allowing water to drip down near ALL the electrical components. We fixed it with clear silicone but not something you should have to do with a new boat.

I had the dealer add a cigarette lighter adapter on the captain's console for my handheld GPS, which blew a fuse but somehow in the process fried my GPS. The GPS never got another fix again, even after an external antenna was added, and thus became a $400 piece of junk.

The dealer also added two downrigger plugs to the sides of the boat, both which were not tighten and spun, causing me to have to go back into the sides of the boat and finish the job correctly.

Up at the bow, the boat has two storage areas, on "dry" storage and one "livewell". We use the livewells as extra storage but even after closing off the fill valve the livewell still gets a good amount of water in the compartment. Now it stores our boat fenders and ropes.

The floor vinyl is slippery as anything, so much that after my wife and nephew slipped after our first two trips out, we added non-skid tape throughout the cockpit floorl. Not a great feature.

The locks..... finally, the locks are crap. Anyone can get into the locked storage by forcing their way in. Other boats such as Alumicraft have much better locking systems and I do not feel comfortable leaving anything truly valuable in the storage areas that is not being watched.

I guess this is what you get for buying an "affordable" boat and as long as i can address the issues I'll be ok, but the last thread regarding the welds really scares me and I'll be keeping an extra eye out for that in the future.

Thanks again all.

It's not a car gas tank! It's just like putting gas in a gas can, if you overfill it then it will come out.

Funny but all the other boats I owned with internal gas tanks were able to be filled just like cars, where the pump could be set and the shutoff would activate once the tank was filled. This design by Tracker stinks plain and simple.

The new(er) Alumacrafts and Crestliners are no different so don't get too upset.

Yup, my Tracker does the same thing.
It's like over-eating... the tank has to burp when full.

I owned a Tide Craft and never had a fueling issue. The gas tank had a vent on the exterior of the boat.

water or gas trapped in the vent tube will make it hard to fill because the air cannot escape the tank. pull the vent hose off of the tank and see if you can blow through it

Re: Tracker Gas Fill Issue?

Makes me wonder how far up the fuel hose the vent is? On most cars the vent is almost at the tank door, so it doesn't burp. I wonder how difficult it would be to change the vent locaton?
