Re: Tracker Grizzly 2072 L jon boat
What is the boat's max horsepower rating? I don't think 9.9 is even half of what you'd need to plane it out with a couple of guys and fishing gear. Maybe, since it's a jon boat. I'd think you'll want at least 50hp.

My second boat - soon to be someone else's - is a 14' tri-hull made of foam with an inner and outer "plastic" hulls with an older 15 h.p. outbaord. It's a cheap Boston Whaler knock off. It's very light and being a tri-hull it planes out better than it might if it were a v-hull. It will plane out loaded with two adults, two kids, and fishing gear - but the hull doesn't weigh 200 pounds I bet. Your Johnny is 6 feet longer and heavier for sure (and a much better boat no doubt).

I checked the Tracker website and your hull alone weighs 725 pounds - not counting gear, motor, fuel, people etc. The max horsepower is listed as 90!!!

Sure, the 9.9 will putter along but I'd think a guy wanting a 20' boat would want to get out and cover some water with it.
