Tracker outboards

I have been looking for a 15' whaler. I found one with a 70hp tracker outboard. I do not know the year, looks new and I would say maby late 90's.<br /><br />My qustion is has anyone here ever run a tracker before? If so you would you say it is a good modor or should I steer clear? I know nothing about tracker outboards and would like all the info that I can find.<br /><br />11

Ryan,<br /><br />The "Tracker" branded outboard can be one of three brands. Some were "Johnson or Evinrude by Tracker. Others were Mercury and some were Force.<br /><br />If you can get your hands on the model and/or serial numbers, possibly someone here can tell you exactly what it is.

In the same email that he told me the serial number, he told me that it is a Evinrude. If you are right he is trying to pull something over on me. He also said that the year is 1989.<br />Anyone els have any info on this?<br /><br />11

Ryan,<br /><br />If it's an '89' it might be a Rude. OMC had the Tracker contract in the late 80's. Not sure of exactly which years.<br /><br />If he got the serial number, there should be a model number along with it.<br /><br />Sorry to run you in circles here. I've been wrong before. :confused:

Ryan, most likely it is a force outboard, if the year is close....merc did not offer a 70 in the late '90's but force did...and it was not one of their better motors.....

Like was said before. Get the model number also from the transom plate. With that, The rest is easy. :)

it the part of your O/B that actually attaches to the transom (stern of your boat). If the guy read you the serial #...the model # is right beside it... call him and get that info. then its a slam dunk..no guessswork!
