Tracker Targa 18 livewell problem

I need some help. Just bought a used 2001 Tracker Targa 18. The boat seemed to check out great until we put it on the water. Once we got in the water we did a visual check and it didn't seem to take on any water. I started filling the rear livewell and it took forever. Once it seemed to be full I turned off the pump. Within 5 minutes the livewll drained. The livewell drain switch was in the closed position. I thought it drained out of the boat but then upon further inspection I noticed it filled in the hull of the boat. Once I got the boat out of the water and drained, I stuck a hose in the rear livewell. It did the same thing and drained as fast I filled it. It drained right into the hull and the only way to get that water out was to pull the plug(or run the bilge). Is this normal? Does the real livewell drain into the hull or does it have it's own seperate drain somewhere? Could a hose come undone or could my drain for the rear livewell be leaking as well. Where is the rear livewell drain? We took on a lot of water but I think it's because I had the pump running to fill the rear livewell. Are there diagrams of this or a manual I can get anywhere for this boat. Thanks for the Help.

Re: Tracker Targa 18 livewell problem

The livewells should not drain into the hull or bilge area. Like you were thinking, either the livewell itself has a leak, or the drain line from the livewell is leaking somewhere. Sorry, I don't have any diagrams to help out. I had two livewells on my 01 Pro Crappie, and both of them drained out of holes located in the transom. My Targa is a little different, the front livewell has a drain directly beneath it through the hull, the rear livewell drains out a hole in the transom. Neither drain into the hull and have to be pumped out with the bilge pump.

Check out your livewell closely to see if it is cracked anywhere. If not, it's a good bet the drain line is leaking somewhere.

Re: Tracker Targa 18 livewell problem

Crazy thing happened today as I was working on the boat. I took a five gallon bucket and dumped it into the lifewell. Sure enough, it didn't leak into the hull and it drained right out the back where you said. It didn't do that the other night on the water! I'm not sure what's going on. I took the boat out today and found out that water was coming in the drain and that the back drain valve is stuck in the open position. Not sure what happened the other day on the water. The boat hadn't been in water for two years. I still think one of the lines might have a leak. Where can I get a new Flow-Rite valve? The drain/valve for my rear livewell is stuck open

That I don't know. None of my livewells have ever had this drain valve. They have all had an overflow riser on the drain so that water will go into this overflow and out the drain once the water level in the livewell gets high enough. A buddy of mine has a Pro-Team 175 that has this drain valve, but I don't think he's ever had to replace it. I'll ask him though.

Figured it out. The Livewell drain valve(Flow-Rite Controls) are leaking like crazy. Both the front and the back need replaced.
