We have a 14' trihull with a 33hp Johnson (1970) on it currently, pushes us about 20mph with 2 people but any more people in it and it isn't too happy. I'm looking to trade with a guy for a 1973 65hp evinrude. Currently has 125psi in all 3 cylinders witch from what i read is good, has new plugs, and fuel pump.

Of course i'm going to check the wiring, gear lube and all the other little details before i commit to the trade, but whats the feedback from any current owners on this engine? Looking at the parts diagrams they appear to be a fairly simple engine, and if i read it right is the throttle cable and gear shift all electronic?

The 1973 is hydro-mechanical shifting, kind of a hybrid between the hydro electric shift and mechanical shift. For what it's worth I'm ditching my 72 hydroelectric the first chance I get...too many obsolete parts that are prone to give out.

I think a 65ph on a 14 foot hull is probably quite a bit of power...maybe too much to stay legal. Check in to that too!

The simplicity of my 33 is why i love it, you start talking about hydro this or hydralic that i just see $$ in my eyes, so i'm thinking i'm going to stay with my little 33, on a side note i checked the placard on the boat and it says up to 70hp which kind of scares me! the 33 will push it at 20-23 mph a 70 just seems excessive! Thanks for the feedback!
