Re: Tragic Events

That has to be one of the dumbest things I have seen. I almost hate to say it, but......."go smoke a damn joint" you freakin idiots.

Our "dumbed down" education system is working. Some are applauding. NOT ME!

Guess you guys never did anything stupid when you were kids. No I never did this, but I have seen it done.<br /><br />Dont be such suckers for the media, kids have been doing this forever. The media is just looking for another story and another label.<br /><br />Ken

Ken,<br /><br />Never said I wasn't "stupid" as a youth. But, I did have a moral compass.<br /><br />Kids today, for the mostpart, DO NOT.<br /><br />Sad.

Yeah we all did stupid stuff in our youth, but this is beyond stupid. If I ever caught my son doing this sort of thing I would ring his neck.

That is what your son wants. To ring his neck and make him pass out. Just teasing. :D <br /><br />I've got a 10-year old son, who will be in Middle school next year. He'll be introduced to a bunch of new stuff then.

We pulled our sons out of the public school mess in the 2nd and 3rd grades-respectively.<br /><br />That is the hardest, and best, decision I ever made.<br /><br />It was VERY hard financially. But, WE made a decision and stuck to it. My boat dreams went to education materials. That's how I learned how to resurrect junk and make a buck on it.<br /><br />We home educated them through high school.<br /><br />Both are in college now and doing just fine. Actually, better than fine. I am proud and deservedly so.

DJ, dont give the schools that much credit, they dont un-educate kids, or make them stupid. Its the parents that make 99% of the difference.<br /><br />My kids will go through public school, but I dont let the school teach them morals, I do that at home.<br /><br />Billions of times I have talked to my 9 yr old about drugs and doing stupid things. I never give up. I will wait till 6th grade before the sex topic comes up. I have touched on the subject. For now, I just dont let him out of my sight too long.<br /><br />Ken

In my work at the Sheriff's Office I have investigated many of these deaths. Usually in a death like this, the parents have no idea what has been happening, but we find signs that this has been going on for some time. It is so sad. :(

Re: Tragic Events

I'm shocked that any parent would want to leave morality training up to the schools. They have plenty to do teach the kids how to read and write--something that you can measure and evaluate progress.<br /><br />It is solely the parents responsibility to teach morality to their children---it is far too important a task to be left to strangers.

The girls in my 5th and 6th grade classes did this. That was 33/34 years ago. I had forgotten all about it till this thread was posted. :(

I tried that once in about 5th grade. Gave me a headache...never did it again. I did, however, watch as other friends did it, and joined in the hyjinx that ensued on the unconscious person... :D

i did that too, about 25 years ago. and, you don't have to actually choke yourself or wring our own neck if that's what some of you are imagining.<br /><br />"And these are the future leaders of our country."<br />-how many generations have said that?

Re: Tragic Events

Well, I did 'other' stupid things... not quite so 'death defying' but that whole 'living on the edge' thing was cool then. It seems it still is.
