hey guys i am replacing my bunks and was curious if any of you guys ever tried to have them linex, rhinolined, or hurculinered. i am thinking of doing it cause with the salt water around here carpeting my bunks just makes them rot faster., and i didnt want to leave them un covered.

Re: trailer bunk question

My first thought is you could buy a lot of bunk lumber for what it would cost you to cover them with that stuff. However, I realize that's not factoring in your labor and frustration. If you end up doing it, you might consider putting some bunk slicks on top. Can't imagine that rhino lining would be very good for your hull.

haha well my luck is i know how to spray it and havve a place to spray so all i would have to buy is the material. its for my aluminum pontoon boat. so i am not worried about the hull as much as my old fiberglass hull. i looked at doing bunk caps and for the amount i need it would be very costly. so i was thinking of coating these but i was thinking about how well it would slide off and on the trailer.

I have no idea you well your boat would slide off and on, but it doesn't seem like that stuff would be very kind to your toons. Also, I wonder if you could even get it to stick to the bunks. It's not really made to bind to porous stuff like wood. Who knows though? I'm just conjecturing, but it really doesn't seem like a good idea to me.

i dont think it would scratch them or anything i toss aluminum stuff in my truck bed all the time and it hasnt messed them up or marked it. i prolly wont go that route but i am just pondering the idea.

That's not really relevant. We're talking about something that's holding the weight of a deck, furniture, and large outboard in addition to whatever else you have on the boat when you trailer it at least twice a week for several months a year, maybe more depending on your use pattern. Sliding 24 linear feet of polished aluminum under all that weight onto rhino lined bunks two to four times a week is nothing like tossing a tool into the back of your truck. Try to visualize the difference. You would quickly see scratches and degrading of the aluminum on the bottom of your tubes.
