Trailer connector damage

I have a 5 pin trailer electrical connector on my ez loader trailer. The trailer has surge brakes so the the electrical is used also for backing up. The connector is damaged. The rubber around the wires split and a couple of the wrires are now exposed. My question is can you replace the connector without re-wiring the entire trailer? Is splicing and using electrical connectors common practice for fixing trailer connectors? Any suggestions would be helpful.

Re: Trailer connector damage

Thanks Jeep. I'm also confused on the trailer connector itself. There are 3 white wires that go into the female part of the connector (I'm assuming this is for the brakes) and then 4 colored wires that go into the male parts of the connector. So there are 7 wires in total? When I look for a replacement connector I only find connectors with 1 white wire and 5 wires in total?

Re: Trailer connector damage

The 3 white wires are the grounds - they just all get spliced together and connected to the 1 white wire on the connector.

Re: Trailer connector damage

For your Reference.....
Pin#1 = White = Ground
Pin#2 = Brown = Tail/Marker Lights
Pin#3 = Yellow = Left Brake/Turn
Pin#4 = Green = Right Brake/Turn
Pin#5 = Blue = Brakes or BackUp (Brake Disable)
